The Jacquard loom is named after its inventor, a Frenchman named J. M. Jacquard. The Jacquard process involves a never ending belt of cards that are punched with holes arranged to produce a pattern weave. The process is similar to the way a player piano operates with the metal cylinder choosing the notes to play. Due to the fact that most woven coverlets are imported, luxururious woven coverlets made in the USA are becoming more and more difficult to find.

Luxury woven bedspreads and coverlets come in a variety of styles and sizes.
Maine Heritage Weavers of Lewiston, Maine, USA, weaves Coverlets in four basic sizes. There is the Twin which measures 66" by 102"; the full size which measures 78" by 102"; the Queen size which is 84" by 110"; and the King Size which is 102" by 110".
Standard bedspread sizes are twin 80"x110", full 96"x110", queen 102"x116" and king 120"x120". Shams measure 20"x26". Standard shams are 20"x26" and king size shams measure 20"x37".
