The Bates Mill Store carries the finest US woven bedding available from Maine Heritage Weavers. Woven vintage Jacquard coverlets and bedspreads made in America are becoming more and more difficult to find in view of the fact most throws are now woven in manufacturing facilities located in Portugal, China, Italy and other far away countries.
One exception, however, is bedding woven by a Maine, USA, based company, Maine Heritage Weavers. This small textile company was started by several Maine craftsmen and women, former employees of Bates Fabrics, the world renown manufacturer of Bates style throws, shams, coverlets and bedspreads in both terry-loop (candlewick) and trapunto (matelasse) construction. Maine Heritage Weavers operates out of the same buildings that housed the Bates operation located along the Androscoggin River in Lewiston, Maine many years ago.
These 100% cotton decorative luxury coverlets are available in a variety of colors and colonial designs, such as Heritage and Abigial Adams Free fabric swatches of their popular candlewick and matelasse bedding are available at www.batesmillstore.com.

Some of our favorite woven matelasse bedspreads are made here in Lewiston, Maine by Maine Heritage Weavers. We have been carrying these luxurious bedspreads for over 50 years . . . first woven by Bates Fabrics, then Bates of Maine, and now Maine Heritage Weavers.
Queen Elizabeth matelasse bedspreads by Maine Heritage Weavers are woven in Lewiston, Maine at one of the Bates Mill buildings by former Bates Fabrics employees. Queen Elizabeth, also remembered as Elizabethan Court, is one of the most popular matelasse designs offered by Maine Heritage Weavers.
Our Queen Elizabeth design is an authentic vintage reproduction of an original handwoven masterpiece dating back to the first Elizabethan Era before becoming popular in Colonial America. Elegant center medallion and flowers woven in an intricate "puffed" pattern give grace and clarity to this classic museum-designed bedspread.
Quality woven cotton matelasse blankets, throws, bedspreads, and coverlets are loomed to be heirloomed on Jacquard looms similar to those used by the legendary Bates Fabrics by former Bates employees at Maine Heritage Weavers.
Bedspreads are available in a variety of colors and vintage designs, and are an excellent addition to any decor. Bedspreads are machine washable and will not shrink more than 3 percent nor fade due to the highest quality of materials used in the weaving process.

Employees at Maine Heritage Weavers know how to weave Maine's best woven bedding. Most of them worked for the legendary Bates Fabrics and Bates of Maine before the textile giant closed its doors. In addition, many of them are 3rd or 4th generation textile mill workers, taught from their parents and grandparents their skilled craft. When Bates closed, they were determined to continue weaving high quality blankets, bedspreads, coverlets and throws.
Here at the Bates Mill Store we carry all of the MHW line. Heritage and Abigail Adams are two of the most popular colonial designs that we carry. Both are matelasse designs available in bedspread and throw sizes. Both are from their popular vintage matelasse collection and treasured favorite designs.
Heritage's matelasse vintage design of repeating leaves and circles are also offered in coverlet sizes with pom-pom fringe. Matching shams and throws are offered as well.
In addition to elegant cotton throws, Maine Heritage Weavers manufactures coverlets, bedspreads and blankets in Lewiston, Maine. Both candlewick and matelasse designs are machine-washable and will not fade nor shrink more than 3 percent due to the high quality of materials used.
